Our council announced in their newsletter that Troops, Packs, etc. could
not use the council's tax ID number for Troop purchases anymore. We were
told we have to use the Tax ID number of our Charter Org. if they have one,
if not tough luck. They referenced some IRS number for their position but
did not print the reference, and the reference did not have the typical NJ
(for New Jersey) in front of any of the references they used. Since the
sales tax is state and not federal I guess they are assuming that's
understood. We tried a year or so ago to get a tax ID number for the
Troop, but the NJ Tax Office told us we were to use the Councils Number.
Has anybody else been in this situation? Have we enjoyed some benefit that
the rest of you have not had? Has BSA's tax exempt status changed?
I'd like to hear your thoughts.
As always, thanks again for being such a great resource!!!
