A little positive scout human interest story here..............
One of our scouts (13 years old, Star Rank, Scribe), his brother (Webeloes
II), and their Dad (School teacher, Webeloes Leader, Troop Committee) are
currently on the Long Trail in Vermont.
Today I got a postcard from the 13 year old scout. It was a picture from Mad
River Glen Ski Area (very historic ski area in the Green Mountains). Dylan
said he was having a great time and at the time he had about 100 miles to go
on his trip.
The Long Trail was first established in the 1920s I believe (prior to the
Appalachian Trail established in 1930s) and parallels the AT for about half
of the Long Trail. The Long Trail begins at the Massachusetts Border with
Vermont and travels through and over the Green Mountains to Canada about 280
or so miles in length. Dylan and family expect to do it in about three weeks
and be back for our troop's 15th annual "Hike to Camp"
Our hike to camp.................a minuscule 10 miles with backpacks on first
day, 10 miles without backpacks for younger scouts and 20 miles without
backpacks for older scouts on second day, and on third day 10 miles with
backpacks as we end up at Yawgoog Scout Reservation for a week at summer
camp. This hike will be a piece of cake for Dylan!
