Great question. I've used "off the cuff" examples at school night in the
past but a line item comparison would be a very useful tool to hand out to
new parents. Following is my breakdown of my expense for my #2 sons
baseball season which ended this past Saturday.
Registration $45 (YMBA 6-8 yr old league)
Uniform $16 (hat, shirt, pants, socks - subsidized by the sponsor)
Glove $20-30 (not an every year cost. My son wanted to play catcher so add
$40 for a catcher's mit. Mask, chest protector, helmet and shin guards were
provided but would cost $50 or so if I had to buy them)
Batting Glove $15 / pair (not an every year expense)
Bat $20 (not an every year expense)
Batting Practice $25
(Batting Helmets were provided but would cost about $10 if I had to buy it.)
After Game Treats $5
Team Pictures $15
Misc. $25 (cokes for mom & dad, gas, etc.)
Total = $211-$311 depending on how much is provided for the boys and any
specialty equipment needed.
We played 17 games over 8-9 weeks.
Daycamp in my area costs $25 and summercamp for BS is $130. Hope this helps
and I would like to have a copy of you compiled data when it is available.
