Once again my pathological inability to say, 'No," has
placed me in a position of ignorance. I've taken a
position on our council's camping committee.
Having this august body of Scouting experience to draw from,
I hope to gain some wisdom on the subject of summer camp
cots or bunks.
For many years our camp has used some military surplus bunks
with steel frames and a suspension of wire mesh and coil
springs. Perhaps since the camp opened in the early 60's.
Even mil-spec items will wear out sooner or later. With
the kind of use/abuse Scouts dish out it is a wonder it wasn't
sooner, I suppose. An unsuccesful attempt to find similar
new items was made, so now the goal is to find a different
style of bunk or cot that will hold up to Scout camp use.
We hope to start phasing in new cots next year. My request
is for evaluations of the type of cots your camp uses. If
the opinion is favorable information on a source for the
item would be appreciated.
Don't be surprised if my response time is slow. I'll be gone
with our troop for the next week, but am looking forward to
a wealth of good info on my return.
Yours in the spirit of Scouting,
Dan O'Canna Lexington, Kentucky
