Bob and everyone else,
Here in Minsi Trails Council, my District (Pocono) and So. Mountain
District have our own Training teams. We do all our training separately,
except SMF (now BSLT).
We alternate which district will lead and supply the SM and SPL. We do
the first Sat. and the overnight together. But for the weeknight
sessions, we each have them in our own areas. We also do them on
different nights, so if someone cant make the sessions in their own
district, they can go to the other one.
This was done in the early '90s because the numbers were getting to
small to run a good program.(so I've been told since it was before I got
back into Scouting) Last spring we had a record number of people take
the course *64*. Patrols are broken down by districts and a troop guide
is assigned from that district. On the weeknights, the AMS and ASPL take
over, in the non-lead district, and run the program just as if the SM or
SPL couldn't attend that meeting.
In the last 5 years that I have been involved, this has worked *very*
well for us and I don't see it going back the other way. Our numbers
have increased about 6-8 people per year. The best thing is that when we
start to advertise the next class, people that had taken it the year
before start to tell about what a great time they had and that they
shouldn't miss it.
