The requirement can't be altered by any camp, council, district, troop, etc.
At the camps we attend, the boys receive a 'partial' in this badge unless they
produce the required report upon arrival at camp. After returning home, they
complete the requirement by maintaining a reptile or amphibian for a month.
Typically, Scouts will keep a turtle, gecko or a small non-poisonous snake.
Several years ago, a turtle named in honor of their Scoutmaster made the rounds
among our Scouts helping them earn this badge. Then, he was release back into
