For those who enjoy orienteering... Sunday on A&E, they will show the movie
adaptation of Dava Sobel's book _Longitude_ (it'll also be shown several
times next week as well). The story traces John Harrison's efforts in the
1800s to solve the problem of longitude by making a clock which can go to
sea. Unfortunately- according to some critics- and I must admit- not having
seen the film yet- I may agree- the film spends too much time on LCDR
Gould's attempt in the early 1900's restoring the Harrison clocks he found
in the basement (Sobel mentions him in the closing pages of the book).
Harrison is played by (the BBC detective 'Magriet') Michael Gambon and Gould
by Jeremy Irons.
