Recently, someone asked the list where all the "good"
reporting on Scouting has gone.
The way of the dodo, it seems. Here is an exerpt from
where good old Bryant Gumbel removed all doubt about
his feelings -- and on camera too.
"Last Thursday, Gumbel allegedly dropped the F-bomb to
denounce a guest he had just interviewed. "What a
[bleeping] idiot," Gumbel appeared to mouth as a
wayward camera swung in on him just as he concluded
interviewing Robert Knight, spokesman for the Family
Research Council who had been supporting the Supreme
Court decision to allow the Boy Scouts of America to
exclude gays. "
Also, tonight at 10PM on CourtTV, a special
presentation called "Scoutmaster's Secret" will be
aired. This is about a man accused of the most
horrible of crimes, and the spreading effects through
the community. Program details to be found at
So, one network's headline anchorman gutteralizes his
feelings about a Scouting supporter, while another
network seeks to find egregious examples of slime
filth and perversion.
Where is any supportive media coverage? I dunno.
Last week at camp, a fellow Scoutmaster (and a very
nice guy) gave me his copy of "Follow Me Boys". Think
I'll go watch that.
