The problem is that the parents of these Scouts are concerned. Especially when we
hold a COH, receive little to none of the accolades of their peers, and they
(these two) end of falling further behind their counterparts. The other two Scouts
had a wonderful time, fully participated with the other Scouts, and generally
speaking their parents are much happier one week later.
As I see it, merit badges and advancement are sort of like grades in school - we
want to believe that we only need to focus on learning in school; but in the final
analysis how are we judged (by ourselves as well as others)?
