Funny you should mention this. I was thinking of trying to
incorporate something similar to this in our next camporee.
However, I was thinking along the lines of ad-hoc patrols on
Sunday for a 2-3 hour service project, including lunch "out on
I figured that the service project would give them a common goal,
be non-threatening, not too competitive (at least, no overt
scoring), and allow them to share a meal somewhat isolated from
the rest of the camp. Ideally, this would have allowed the boys
to get to know some of the other boys in the district.
And, if they don't become friends, that's OK. The idea is just to
get them thinking outside their troops, and to realize that
Scouting is a fraternal thing.
