Before I respond to this thread, I thought I might do a little introduction.
My name is Carrie and we are a military family living overseas. Our boys
are Cub Scouts (1 Tiger and 1 Bear). I am a brand new Tiger Coach and my
husband is a brand new Cubmaster. So far the boys' response to scouting has
been very positive. Okay, I confess, they love it! This says a lot for my
Tiger who hates joining any group of any kind and is extremely shy.
I've been lurking for awhile and since we are fairly new to scouting, I
didn't feel qualified to respond intelligently to any conversation to date.
However, since we are also a homeschooling family, I thought I might jump in
on this one. Homeschoolers in general are very active socially. Since a
lot are Christian families, scouting appeals naturally to most
homeschoolers. For those of you who are thinking of recruiting
homeschoolers, I think the resonse will be overwhelmingly positive. In fact
there is a book called Scout School in which they show you how to implement
scouting into a homeschooling schedule. You can find it at
www.cis.net/~cmmeyer/ScoutSchool/ This book covers Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts,
Brownies and Girl Scouts. I hope this helps a little.
