It never fails to amaze me how different our experiences from one location
to another change. I have been on the training staff in our district for
many years and can recall only one training during that time that our D.E.'s
have not been present and an integral part of the training. Up until the
last three or four years, a D.E.'s presence at a camporee was rare except to
collect the fees and get people signed in. Our current SE requires their
presence at all council/district events from start to finish. While we get
irritated often by their lack of a sense of urgency about each and every one
of our volunteer concerns, I haven't yet run into a volunteer who would
seriously like to take on their jobs and long impossible hours.
