True enough. I would only share one experience which, in retrospect is
amusing. In 1973, I was running a WB course and the camp staff gave me an
old flag to be retired at one of our Troop campfires. We did, burning it
whole with respect. I left the campfire, feeling that we had done well and
had a nice ceremony.
Then, at the showers that evening, I had a number of Scouters accost me for
having a "flag burning" as part of Boy Scouts. And there were a couple of
complaints to the Scout Executive about the "flag burning" at Wood Badge.
Things were different in 1973. Some days, you get the bear and some days
the bear gets you.
