"An Eagle is an Eagle is an Eagle.
Now let's get on to something important like scout uniform pants.

Uniform Pants it is Jim!
Rather than quibble over the approximate merits of each possible
solution, I would like to see BSA offer several versions. Why limit
scouts and scouters to just one solution?
My opinion being as unchangeable as it is, I think the current shorts
are fine. They're a bit long, but I can laways get them shortened a
bit. I personally like the older style pants with the cargo pockets
on the legs. But I would like to see some shorts of the style
described by the originator of this thread; lightweight fabric, big
slash pockets with velcro closures. I have a pair of civilian shorts
like this made by Columbia. They're called "PFG" (short for
Prosessional Fishing Gear) and they're my favorite shorts. They hold
tons of stuff and let the air circulate between me and my wallet so I
don't get "wallet rash." Make them in the standard "ugly green" and
you'd have an excellent pair of shorts for those that like shorts.
For those that only wear long pants offer them in several styles and
weights. Heavy duck or wool for cooler climes, medium weight for
more temperate areas and lightweight for those that like them that
way for any number of reasons. And you could even make them BDU
style in ugly green.
As for the zip-offs, why not? Sure there's the argument that it's
just one more thing to lose on a campout, but that can be said for
all kinds of things including some of the ten essentials.
I realize that it might make for a stockage problem for National
Supply, but with a wider variety of "official" pants to choose from,
we might actually get more people to wear complete uniforms. We
would certianly take away most of the excuses people have for not
wearing complete uniforms!
