Well, what the "e-mailer" did was clearly inappropriate and, frankly, incredibly
stupid. The Council's action was appropriate to remove him from youth-leadership
roles and probably should be upheld at this point not just because it is right,
but because it is a good lesson for the youth and adults serving on course.
Young people don't always seem to understand that there are consequences to
actions that they choose to take. The adult leader who did the e-mail made a
decision sending communications that were inappropriate for the youth to the
youth, he is now paying the consequences. The Scoutmaster/Course Director is now
also facing consequences for errors of judgement in his case as well. He did not
counsel his adult staff on appropriate relations between adult and youth. He did
not have a third adult on staff for extra coverage should there be an emergency.
Unless he is able to find another adult, there will be no JLT course going on.
Stick to your guns on the issue. Everyone will benefit next year.
