scouts-l Mail Archive for June of 2000: Should anyone be bored out in California....
Thu Jun 22 2000 - 09:52:24 CDT
...I will be out there in Long Beach from 6/24 to 7/1 at the PC(USA) General
Assembly in the Presbyterian Scouters booth. Yup, we'll have handouts and
stuff, so I suppose if you snuck by the convention center you could pick up
some stuff. Relationships is providing the booth and also has shipped a ton
or two of paper out to distribute. And if all of that isn't enough I acquired
a few things to give away to people that filled a box from my new 27"
television (Unplanned purchase, Chris had watched us for years cleaning the
TV screen and so when we accidentally left the glass spray in his reach he
sprayed the old TV until some board inside fried).
We also have a Duty to God Breakfast on Tuesday Morning at a cost of $11/head
if anyone from the area is interested, but please buy the tickets early at
the convention center so we have enough places set. If someone is interested,
send me a note for details.
Everyone in Southern California can anxiously await the event. We were in Ft.
Worth last June and someone came over from National Office to ask what the
week-long convention was for BESIDES discussing the church deciding not to
ordain homosexual pastors/elders/etc. (another discussion NOT for this list).
I expect, even though last year they voted to table it for study for two
years, that it *will* be the main story, going way beyond the things like the
awards we'll hand out at the Breakfast or anything else that happens there.
Scouters interested in visiting should let me know off list and I'll get you
details and where I'll be staying if necessary. AND...I'll hit up the
relationships guy for details for Hank and Mike on the community award. For
the record, BSA Today is the newsletter sent to all CO's and others in
anything considered Relationships. And I don't get it as secretary of the
National Association of Presbyterian Scouters so I wouldn't think it would
become a regular hand out for anyone who was interested who asked, although I
COULD be wrong and I have been before.
