I'm counseling FmLf as we speak with our troop. Its been a
great way to include the younger ones. The concept of how
a group works together to provide safety, privacy, respect
and support for each other transfers nicely from Scouting
Oath and Law to Family.
On 'Making My Bed,' I laughed out loud. The Scout who brought
it up laughed with me and said, "What?!?" He knows I wasn't
making fun of him, so I could do that. I related to him that
he sleeps in that bed. Making it is for his own benefit, to be
sure that the critters and sand would be shaken out. And that
the smoothed sheets would feel cool and comfortable to him
when he needed to get some rest. The faces of about 15 Scouts
lit up with widened eyes as a chorus of "yeah" and "right" went
around the room.
I told him I absolutely would not count anything that he could
and would ordinarily do for his own personal, private benefit
alone. Like brushing his own teeth. That's for him and his
Nuff from me. I just love it.
