Well, have been reading here that the BSA is going to make new scout shorts
based on the Philmont shorts made by Columbia. Good move. I have a pair
and I love them. Was hoping they would do this.
What I wanted them to do was make the shorts in olive drab and add an
embroidered Boy Scout logo on the left pocket, where the Philmont logo is on
the Philmont shorts. Are they going to have this?
I also wanted them to make them in charcoal gray with an embroidered
Venturing logo for the Venturers. The present official Venturing shorts
sucks. The cargo pockets can barely hold my wallet! They use generic
buttons instead of a snap at the waist and velcro on the pockets. I have a
pair, but usually use a pair of charcoal gray Blue Water shorts from Royal
Robbins. They are similiar to the Philmont shorts with front and back slash
pockets and nice sized cargo pockets.
If the BSA wants a different style of shorts, they really should check out
those made by The Gap or other clothing companies aimed at the outdoors.
Don't know who designed the current and previous shorts, but I always hated
them. Zippers were more inline with dress pants then active shorts. And I
always had to get them a size or two bigger then normal. Ugh.
