Well, I have three pair of these things that I purchased a year ago, and I
couldn't be happier with them. I wish I had MORE. The ones I have are made
by Sportif (purchased through Sierra Trading Post). They are not cheap, but
are less expensive than buying separate pants and shorts.
I have had little or no problems with these pants. Mine are Supplex Nylon,
which is a very nice fabric for hiking (dries very quickly). On one pair
the fly zipper is messed up, but I managed to jam that myself (no jokes,
please). The leg zippers show no shrinkage at all after a year.
And they ARE great for travelling. If I have to fly to Virginia and forget
to check the weather forecast, I don't have to worry -- I have pants that
will be comfortable whether it's cool or hot.
Personally, I would LOVE to see this kind of pant used in the uniform. I
hope they are looking at the better brands (Sportif, Ex Officio etc) in
designing the construction. Right now, BSA issue duds are way behind the
industry in effectiveness in the outdoors. I'm sorry, but on a hot muggy
day here in S.E. Missouri, those cotton shorts are not that comfortable!
