Our local troop and pack are bring the Koshare Indian Dancers to town on part of their Y2K tour and are out selling tickets to our show. When we approached our council camp about putting up a couple of fliers in the Trading Post and office to let the boys and leaders know about the event we were told we couldn't. I was told the official policy of out council is to not support unit fund raisers, but they will support unit activities. Since we are selling tickets to the event and hope to make some money, our August 6 show is considered a fund raiser. I asked why we or other units couldn't put up information on a bulletin board like most stores, libraries, etc. have to let people know of events so we could support our fellow scouts, and was again told the party line.
What is the council policy on this where you're at? Before I go and say something that will get me in deeper trouble, I am looking for your help. If this is a widely accepted policy, then I'll keep quiet and find other ways to promote to the public since I'm shut out of getting to the boys and leaders. If not, I'll figure the best way to dig my grave within the council. I know that the boys would love to see the Koshare and if they don't know about it, they can't.
I'll be at camp the next week, so please reply off-line to me at my email address.
Thanks for the input and pardon the steam.
