David and all,
>From my experience, it's quite common. The boys I'm aware of tend to
finish it up by the time they're 13, or when they're 17 years, 11 months,
and 29 days old.
My most interesting "last minute" Eagle was one who I was helping to dry
the paint on the choir robe closet he built for St. Aiden's church--at 9 pm
one evening--three hours before he turned 18. Go figure...
My own son is 15 years, 5 months old, and has about 5 MBs and a service
project left for this Eagle badge. He could get this done in six
months--but noooooooo, although he claims he wants to make his Eagle badge.
We'll see. I fear he's going to be one of those last minute guys as well.
But--I cannot in good conscience do anything more except remind him every
couple of months that time's a'wastin'...I'm not going to carry him over
the finish line! It wouldn't be right, as much as I'm tempted sometimes.
