scouts-l Mail Archive for June of 2000: Re: Men as Girl Scout leaders...

Quoting from page 39, Safety-Wise:
"Each troop or group should have at least one adult leader and one
or more assistant leaders. Because the female role model is
essential to fulfilling the purpose of Girl Scouting, at least one
member of the leadership team must be an adult female."
As far as I have been able to determine, this is the only written rule
regarding male leaders in a Girl Scout troop. (I haven't gone through
all of the diversity/pluralism stuff, which should at least support this
position.) I've heard all sorts of stories similar to the ones people on
this list have apparently been told by their councils, but seen
nothing else in writing. GSUSA seems to have more "local" rules --
they have no John Dalrymple equivalent!
