This has been an interesting thread also. Since my
youngest daughter has just turned 24, it's a hard one
for me to answer.
So I've been thinking about whether I'd let my almost
7 year old granddaughter go camping with a girl scout
troop that had a male leader. Now you have to
understand that my little granddaughter couldn't be
more precious to me if she WERE my daughter. So I
think I might be even more protective than I might
have been with my daughters. However, my feeling is
that if I couldn't trust her with a male girl scout
leader to go camping, then she would not even be in
that leader's troop. Or else I would be accompanying
the troop on the campout! Frankly, when she does get
involved in Girl Scouts or Camp Fire (and you should
hear her opinion on Gramma being in the Boy Scouts)
I expect I will be right there with her, volunteering
my time to help out. I've always been that way.
I asked my daughter earlier today how she felt about
this. She assured me that she felt pretty much the
same as I do. So our joint answer is.....yes, we
would trust a male Girl Scout Leader to take her
camping, after we had gotten to know him really well.

PS - She gets quite indignant about my being in the
BOY Scouts. Says I should be in GIRL Scouts since I
am a girl. But hey, she's only 6 years old. What
does she know? LOL
