Wow. An Eagle Gold ceremony (or is it a Gold Eagle Ceremony?). This sounds
like a wonderful concept. The major characteristic of an Eagle ceremony is
that it be boy plannned. That is, that your son plan his own ceremony.
Looks to me like he already has by wanting a joint ceremony with his sister.
The biggest resistance you may run into is from your GSUSA council. It is my
understanding that some councils like to have council wide Gold ceremonies
and that they discourage individual troop ceremonies. There is no reason why
you cannot have a joint GSUSA/BSA ceremony but you may have to stand tough to
Oh, you might ask Bill Sills of Sinnissippi Council in Wisconsin about what
he would suggest. Bill has been talking about joint Sea Scout/Mariner things
My input is what I said before, ignore what the adults think and have the two
principals plan the ceremony the way they want. If it involves a honor guard
of Arrowmen in dresses, it would be perfect. (Before I get slammed here,
Arrowmen is the generic name for men and women in the OA and of course women
can be OA members- just not girls).
