I wouldn't do that if I were you--- if you were to come in contact with a
racoon, even a dead one, who had rabies, the virus could be yours.... and
it's a gift that keeps on giving until it kills you most unpleasantly. If you
show symptoms, it's already reached your central nervous system, which is
where it kills you. It could be on the fur, if the racoon was inclined to
lick himself clean, or in the blood.
Your option is, I guess, to get the series of 3 rabies shots, which is fairly
effective (most veterinarians I know get them prophylactically for themselves
and their staffs). You could report contact with a racoon acting unusually
(and a racoon out in the open in broad daylight is so doing) and your
insurance would cover it, but I'm not sure you really wanna do this.
Seems easier to buy the fool things.
