scouts-l Mail Archive for June of 2000: Re: Scoutmaster Conferences (was Troop Leadership Positions)

I do empower my ASMs to hold Scoutmaster Conferences with the youth.
Although my approach is sort of the opposite of yours. They deal with patrol
level issues, attendance, conduct, patrol leadership, etc., first. Then, if
that doesn't work, I'll get involved.
I do not delegate those that are associated directly with rank advancement,
however. That's personal choice. Rank advancement SMCs are, to me,
something special -- a chance at a type of interaction with each of the
Scouts that I would otherwise miss.
I made a mistake (oh my gosh, I admitted it!) in my original posting on this
in that I read "formal" into Dave's response. Rereading the emails, Dave
didn't indicate that in his email at all (though others did) and I owe both
Dave and the List an apology for that.
Dave, My apologies.
To the List, my apology as well.
