I know the situation is long over and it sounds as if it was very well
handled. However, should a similar situation occur with others, I believe
that the provisions for "handicapped" scouts do not require that the handicap
be permanent. In other words, a serious injury or other physical or mental
problem, which is temporary but causes a handicap for a period of time, is
justification for extension of the time to earn the Eagle award beyone the
