You might want to check you own state's Parks and Wildlife (Game and Fish, or
whatever) websites as this is a time of year when we may be taking scouts
fishing. Know the rules before you go! This is from the Texas Parks and
Wildlife license info link but I'm sure many other states have similar
"The first Saturday in June of each year is the annual Free Sport-fishing Day
and no person is required to have a fishing license or stamps while
sport-fishing on that day."
"You do not need this license if you: Are under 17 years of age."
Our District holds it's Fishing Derby in October down on the Texas City Dyke
on the way to Galveston. It's a lot cooler and the flounder are usually
running. We charge $4.00 per entrant but that covers some nifty trophies and
everyone gets pound of dead shrimp for bait.
