A long time ago in BSA Leader Training, I was taught that while Permission
Slips and Hold Harmless letters are useful, no one, not the parent nor the
child, can sign away a child's right to sue. So even with such a hold
harmless, while one's defensive position is somewhat strengthened should an
untoward event occur, the defense is far from absolute.
However, I am neither an attorney nor an insurance expert, so one of those
individuals should probably comment on this topic.
