I'd suggest using prepared apple pie filling instead of canned sliced apples.
Also...after sprinkling the cake mix over the top, I'd add approx. 1/2 stick
of margarine in pats evenly spaced around the top of the dessert. The liquid
from the pie filling and margarine will mix with the cake mix much better
than the juice from the sliced apples did.
We've used the pie filling (any kind) / cake mix(any kind) / margarine method
with great success. Hope this is helpful.
