My son is getting ready to begin the process of planning, and doing his Eagle project. For several years he has said that he wants to do his project for his elementary school, something that several other scouts in our troop have done.
Yesterday, he had the initial meeting with the principal of the school, and all went well with his idea, etc. there is one glitch about which I wish to inquire for the collective wisdom of this list.
The Principal is leaving, not just the school, but the system as well. It is of his own choice, he is going to a neighboring county system.
Could this present a problem in the planning and execution of the project? Maybe. There is no way to get the project completed prior to the date the current principal will leave. I am concerned that the new principal may have his own ideas, may not want this project, may want something else entirely, may not want to deal with an Eagle project until he gets further along in his tenure at this school, or may not even wish to deal with Eagle projects or scouting at all. I know I may be stretching this a bit, but I guess I am a bit of a worry wart.
Son is not in a time bind yet, he just turned 16 in March, so he has nearly two years to do a project.
My question is, should he continue with the project as if the principal was not leaving? Should he wait until the new principal comes on board (might be 30 - 60 days, could even be longer if the board decides to go the interim route), and discuss this with him? Or should he look for an Eagle project elsewhere and not wait on the school system?
I realize that there are a lot of specifics that will be involved in the decision, but I am looking for general guidance here, Am I worrying too much, ro is this a valid concern, and what would you do if you were in my shoes?
And yes I realize this is HIS project, but I am trying to advise him, and keep him from getting into a hole over which neither of us may have any control.
Thanks for your help.
