A great thread with lots of good ideas. My mother taught me to sew (and knit)
when I was just a pup and it has served me well over the years.
Unfortunately, from a learning-to-sew perspective, our Scout Store now sells
a patch glue designed to go through wash cycles and war. Supposedly, the
patch only comes off if it's reheated with an iron, leaving a glue stain
behind. We haven't tried it, but know people who have and it seems to hold up
to it's claims. Resourceful scouts may find this alternative preferred to
having to sew on patches themselves.
