First it is against BSA policy to take a gun on the outing
Second if you did take it and try to use it, all you will do is make the
bear mad as you will be too scared to aim right. Then you have to explain to
everyone why your trip got cut short and all your gear is destroyed. Plus I
doubt you would follow US Forest service policy in shooting a bear and you
will get a hefty fine. ( I can't get into specifics but our camp ranger has
delt with this many times in taking care of bears at our scout camp.)
