Okay, I just have to add my .02 cents worth next.
Just before I retired as District Advancement
Chairman, an Eagle Scout Candidate approached me to
have his blood drive Eagle project approved. This was
the first one for me. Shortly before that our Council
had informed us that it was okay to approve blood
drives. (They had previously not approved of them.)
Anyway, after counseling the Scout about what I saw as
drawbacks and areas of caution, I approved his
project. Last week, I was honored to sit on his Board
of Review for Eagle. He had done an impressive job!
He managed to get 38 first time donors. He provided
childcare for donors. He solicited food donations and
provided snacks for donors. He even wrote thank you
notes to all who had donated blood! He had a lovely
letter from the blood bank thanking him and remarking
on his thoughtfulness for his donors. Needless to
say, he passed his board with flying colors.
I have had to change how I had felt about blood drives
as Eagle Projects. I've seen how one can be done
