My take on this is that it is OK that your Troop doesnt allow smaller
children in the family on campouts. To each his own.
But my other side says, as long as you have plenty of leadership that
1. doesnt have any smaller children
2. Has a mom & Dad at home which one of them can stay home with
the little one while the other camps out,
I wish you luck in getting enough leadership to comply with YP and
There are alot of single parents out there and they would like to spend
time with their children too.
Make this requirement abundantly clear to all parents.. and might I
suggest that you have one or 2 family type camping events per year that
all can go on too? That way all parents, single and couples, get a
chance to share in the experiences with their son.
Yes we are allowing boys to become men.. but real men care for all of
their children and dont sluff off on the responsability of caring for their
younger charges too. Being a man isnt only how well you do camping
with the guys. It is caring too.
No flame intended, just my .02
