Well Dan, I'll be happy to join you going down in flames over this issue (be
warned however that I never stay down for long)
While I believe that there is a place for a whole lot of variety in
Scouting, and family camping has it's place, BOY Scouting is about BOYS
growing into MEN. It's is about BOYS being in the company of MEN who model
good character and high moral standards, which certainly includes a respect
for family. But that is far different than it being always open to family.
I am sure that those who grew-up with, or currently practice family camping
all the time in Scouting, have wonderful memories and gain much from the
experience. But, I'm just as sure that Scouting run exclusively or
primarily that way deprives the boys of much of what Scouting is all about.
You may call it Boy Scouting, but it isn't.
I'm tempted to add my thoughts on women as leaders, but, I said I was
willing to go down in flames, not atomic blasts!
