There's NO online training YET. It's coming. That's ALL I can say about that.
The requirements for the training awards and the Scoutmaster Award of Merit
are found on my Unofficial Insignia and Uniform Online site, under "training
Thanks again to Mike Kauffmann, who spent a lot of time converting the
training award cards into webpages and he's graciously gave me permission to
link his pages to my overall information on those awards.
Yes, training is STILL a requirement, and can be met in several ways in "our
*teleconferencing with a training team or volunteer from other part of
Direct Service or from Far East or Transatlantic Councils.
*self-study of the training course materials (available from the Direct
Service Council's office or any Council office)
*attending a training course Stateside or on "leave" to either Saudi Arabia,
Germany, or Japan. The Scoutmaster Fundamentals course can be conducted
over a weekend.
The problem of receiving training course materials HAS BEEN ADDRESSED, and
does not only apply in your case, being isolated from other Scouters; but
also apply in inner-city areas, in rural settings, and in settings whereby
the "traditional mode of training" is unreachable. One innovative thing I
will never forget is the idea of holding Scoutmaster Fundamentals and Cub
Scout Leader Basic during LUNCHTIMES for an entire week, complete with
lunch. Each two-hour session of the training course is taught during a two
and a half-hour "lunch break" from 11- 1:30pm for an entire week.
So, training CAN be accomphished, Tawyna...and the recognitions for
completing and applying that training CAN be earned and received.
