><snip><. Careful Biblical scholarship does not support this. ><snip><
Actually, careful biblical scholarship is inconclusive about
a whole lot of things. No one has an "original" Bible as
penned by the "original" author of a particular book. What
we have are translations. The earliest "copies" of New
Testament writings that survive are Greek translations
dating back to around 200 A.D. Since translations often
result in the loss of the original author's meaning or
intent, (Aramaic -> Greek -> Latin -> English -> American)
we end up with "differences" in religious practices, liturgy
and traditions. We won't even talk about the embellishments
added by the pious monks who laboriously hand copied Bibles
until Gutenburg invented his press.
OK, I admit it . I attended John Carroll University where
the Jesuits required me to take a number of theology
courses. Just wanted to prove to dad that his money wasn't
totally wasted. Thanks Dad :-)
Now that we've tiptoed around the edges of 2 of 3 G's, I'd
like to hear more from one of the list's attorneys who has
been following the Supreme Court arguments. Counselors?
