Mon May 01 2000 - 19:45:51 CDT
Troop 102 of Johnson City, NY went on a quite succesful Niagara Falls trip
this past weekend. Many thanks to "Scouter Don" Izard of Buffalo who
assisted with ideas and directions ! Highly recommend this trip...and, saw
at least two or three other scout troops there doing the same as us. Spent
Saturday as follows (prices in parantheses for your future planning)...
* Walking the perimeter of Goat Island (free)
* Visiting the Schoellkopf Geological Museum ($1)
* Riding the 'Maid of the Mist' boat ($9)
* Walking over to the Canadian side of the Falls ($0.50 to reenter the US
!)...be sure each scout who is not accompanied by a parent has a birth
certificate with him...the Canadian customs officer was very serious about
We started at the Niagara Falls St Pk Visitors Center, where brochures are
available on all the above.
We stayed Friday and Saturday nights at Schoellkopf Scout Reservation, one
of the Greater Niagara Falls Council camps, located about 50 miles SE of
Niagara Falls in rural western NY.
In addition to the help provided us by Don Izard, the GNFC website had some
very good info and several links to Niagara Falls attractions.
