Ahh, but Mr. Sipes, one takes the Bible on faith--and one definitely should
not do that with our newspapers. They are simply extensions of the
owners/editors' viewpoints. Take my local paper, for example. Anything this
paper can say negatively about the U. S. Postal Service, my employer, it
will. It is no secret that the owners have long had an extreme dislike for
the USPS. They will publish several articles about a 1Cent rate hike that
takes over a year to implement, yet hardly anything about the big oil
companies raising the price of gasoline 5 to 10 cents overnight (or sooner!).
I did not read Ms. Coates original letter, but the section you quoted did not
seem inappropriate to me. But, given the extreme freedom our media have with
the "Freedom of Press" and "Freedom of Speech", I can see where one can
gather that the newspapers can, and will, print only what they wish.
During the March primary in Texas, I took advantage of early voting. After
this early balloting, the paper put out in their editorial column their
"choices" for each office. I knew I had voted for the right people since
none of my choices were the same as the paper's!!
