John Nelson ASM queried the list;
"A question came up during tonight's Committee meeting about using
tents for troop activities. We are short of tents for summer camp,
on buying a few, and have several parents volunteering theirs. I've
the BSA Guide to Safe Scouting but couldn't find anything. Does anyone
of any regulations regarding/preventing such use."
There is no regulatory prohibition against using personal equipment for
summer camp and the like. Some troops discourage using personal stuff,
but it's a local unit decision. Most units that have policies regarding
personal equipment have them because they (or someone like their
Chartered Org) made the expenditures to acquire troop equipment and they
want to be sure it gets used. If it doesn't get used, they can't very
well argue the case for getting more as the unit grows, or for getting
items repaired or replaced.
