I was going to post this straight from the fax machine, but Neil beat me to it!
Yep, we have a NEW Chief Scout Executive...and this guy is "net savvy!"
>Roy L. Williams of Mesa, Arizona, has been named to head the Boy Scouts of
>America (BSA), effective June 1, 2000.
>Williams has held a wide range of positions during his 28 years of
>professional service to Scouting. He started his career with the BSA in 1972
>as a district executive with the Longhorn Council in Fort Worth, Texas. He
>served as Scout executive of the Jayhawk Area Council in Topeka, Kansas. He
>also served as director of the Boy Scout Division at the National Council
>before being named Scout executive of the Narragansett Council in Providence,
>Rhode Island, in 1990. Most recently, Williams was regional director for the
>Western Region of the BSA, headquartered in Tempe, Arizona.
Roy was responsible for the growth and development of the BSA's website and
encouraged Councils in his Region to have functional websites.
Some of you on Scouts-L probably remember that Roy actually responded to
several of our Scouts-L postings forwarded to him when he was serving as the
Boy Scout Program Director and as Program Group Director. I don't think
that our new Chief Scout Executive will be posting items on Scouts-L or
Arrow-L, but I DO see him sending holiday greetings and perhaps greetings on
the 91st birthday of the BSA to all of us through the BSA's website or maybe
He will be "back at home" with the new appointment, and many longtime
Scouters from the Fort Worth area (close to the BSA's executive training
institute) will appreciate the "new Chief coming home" to the Council in
which he started his professional career from.
This is a VERY GOOD THING, folks, and we should all be clapping loudly for
the great appointment of Chief Roy as the BSA's new national administrator.
Now, let's see if he brings back PROFESSIONALS managing the complete public
relations effort for the BSA!! *smiling*
Thanks, Neil, for posting the release!! Can't you tell I'm excited?!
