It is entirely appropriate to take the suggestion to the PLC, but I would
ask the PLC to consider the following questions, "What do the Scouts learn
about nutrition from menu planning in general, and what would they learn
by substituting doughnuts for a regular meal?" Ideally, the discussion
thereafter might touch on nutritional content of menus, learning cooking
skills, team work, advancement requirements.
And no, I don't think this is an issue for the troop committee.
Whether the pancakes are better for them nutritionally is beside the point
in my book. To have pancakes for breakfast means taking time to plan them,
buy the ingredients, prepare the batter, learn to cook them on a camp stove
(not as easy as at home on that griddle with the temperature controls), and
clean up afterwards. Not to mention working with the group. Doughnuts
only meet the first two expectations. Even cold cereal with milk scores
And having fresh fruit with pancakes is an excellent menu.
Now, were any of those chocolate doughnuts left?
