Last night at the end of the scout meeting I was informed by the advancement
chairperson that my reigstration for merit badge coulselor had expired (not
my adult leader reigistration) and I would need to fill out another
application. So I completed the name and address, all that info as well as
the merit badge counselor designation (we had done this before--years back).
Then she said, that I would have to fill out the whole
application--references and all.
Is this something new that national has started. I can see the need to
update the list each year for name, address, phone number, etc. and to make
sure the adult still wants to remain a merit badge counselor, but is it
necessary to COMPLETELY re-register. We don't do that for other leadership
positions. When I asked why, I was told that the council couldn't keep
their records straight and that this was the easiest way. Maybe I'm wrong,
but it appears to me that the merit badge counselors are having to make up
for some people's administrative ineptness.
If anyone has some explantions to help me understand this or similar
experiences, please respond to the list or by private mailing.
