scouts-l Mail Archive for April of 2000: Re: Temperature with Crickets

The chirping of a cricket has been shown to provide a close indication of air
temperature. By counting the number of cricket chirps in a 14 second period
and adding 40, the total will equal the air temperature to with one degree
75% of the time.
This is something I found in a book years ago and then used in Baloo's Bugle.
Never did the counting of the chirps and then the adding myself. So I don't
know if this works or is one of those "Old Wives Tales". Oops, I mean "Old
Chris--sometimes feeling like an Old Wife : )
