Our troop had a similar experience with Eureka Timberline tents and wind: we ripped two flys on one especially windy campout and had another ripped fly and a set of crumpled poles on another. To the best of my knowledge we had pitched the tents correctly. If we were to get more timberlines they would be of the outfitter class. What we have had very good luck with for the last 10 years is the REI trail dome. They easily sleep two (squeeze three) Scouts, weigh 7.25 pounds, have aircraft quality flexible metal poles, a full coverage fly, and when they go on sale annually cost about $110. The zippered areas are much less vulnerable to stress than the Eurekas were, and I saw one bend over about 45 degrees then snap back in the same wind that crushed our timberline. Also, service has been exceptional: when we had a ripped zipper we sent it in for repair and they sent us a new tent.
