Actually it is in my opinion a rather good idea to have a number of "three
piece suits" on the Council BOD. If they are good at business and fund
raising it means less financial stress passed on to the uniformed Scouters at
District and unit levels. That said there does need to be a number of
experienced Scouters at BOD level to provide input into unit and District
level Scouting issues. There needs to be someone they can turn to other than
the professional staff for input on the needs of the program in the Council
service area. Most professionals do have a feel for the needs of the
Council, however their need to maintain a healthy financial posture for the
Council and achieve goals, will sometimes color their recommendations at the
expense of relatively low cost initiatives that would bring great benefits at
the unit and District levels.
