RT Attendance Incentives
We usually give out a few door prizes at RT, Scout related stuff mostly. We
send out reminder cards by mail the week before and they need to bring the
cards to RT to enter the drawing. If they claim they didn't get one by mail,
we let them fill out their name and address right there and update our
mailing list. If they forgot their card we also let them enter, one entry
per person ofcourse.
Last month at our Key 5 we mentioned that the novelty of the Scout related
door prizes may have worn thin as an attendence incentive, so the new
District Chairman (a VP for a big bank) proposed giving 4 tickets to the next
Astro's baseball game since his company has season tickets for every game.
Now, these aren't nosebleed seats but box seats at the new Enron Field that
opened last month. I think the value is $150-200 for the 4. I proposed that
they be split into 2 prizes of 2 tickets each and that CS and BS sides of the
RT be eligible for only one set each.
We tossed around the idea of what should constitute a winner, just attend,
improve your unit's attendance, bring the most scouters, etc. We opted to
let anyone who attends be eligible as the other options require some type of
tracking method or way of measuring attendance improvement. Plus we felt
that one should not be penalized for being a steady RT attendee from a small
unit pitted against a unit who might get a one time big turnout for a prize.
Two things make me ponder this idea. Well I'm not a big baseball fan so I
wouldn't care either way if I won, and I question the idea of having to give
out some sort of doorprize since you should go to RT for some reason other
than prizes, like a good program to take back to your unit. I kind of
wonder if this straddles the fence on the idea of a "game of chance". But
I'll let you know how it goes next month.
Any comments or feedback?
