scouts-l Mail Archive for April of 2000: CS attendance award

Y'know your memory is a funny thing....
Flash back 36 years and I'm 8 and the Pack is taking a roll call of the dens
at the Pack meeting. Every den was answering - through their youth leader, I
add - a number the den mother told them to say. Mom was DM and I couldn't
figure it out so I asked.
It wasn't number of youth, it was number of parents, given as "12 out of 14",
12 are here and there are a total of 14 parents in my den. Den with the
highest percentage of parents each month got the attendance award.
As I watch Packs around my town go through their awkward attempts at running
things, I wonder where the concept of the parents sitting with the den in the
back rows went (heck, where parents even attending went) and if anyone out
there is still using this "outmoded" method to make sure the kids are nagging
not just one parent but both parents to come to pack meetings so that their
den can "win".
