scouts-l Mail Archive for April of 2000: Bear to Webelos transition

Having been a Girl Scout leader for the last 7 years and a Cub Scout den
leader for 3 (including Tiger Cub Coach Coordinator) I have seen some of the
best and worst of each program. The hardest part of Cub Scouts for me so far
is the fact that every year is a "whole new ball game"! I'd just figured out
Tigers when they became Wolves, I finally got that wired and they became
Bears and I have just started to feel comfortable with that and now I'm
looking to Webelos which seems to be REALLY different from everything else
that we've done so far.
Please don't misunderstand me, I'm really enjoying the Cub Scout program - in
fact managing my 7 boys (six of whom I've had since Tigers) has been a lot
more fun lately than my 15 Junior Girl Scouts (10 of whom I've had since
Daisies) since the girls are racing into puberty!
So what I'm looking for is any tips or "lesson plans" that you Webelos
Veterans can give me. Are there some activity pins which should be worked on
before others? I've asked and we don't appear to have any special training in
the Webelos program in our council. I would appreciate any help that you can
